Colombian coffee is a staple in our offering lineup - it's such a great coffee to add to blends but it's also a classic single origin. It's tasty as a dark roast and as a medium roast. If you've ever had our Sunrise Tiger or Dark Horse (the two original signature blends!), or had our El Tambo, then you've tasted the goodness of Colombia.

Over the years our offerings have shifted. We've been able to nearly always find a tasty coffee from women producers in Colombia, but it's varied from different cooperatives/organizations.

Let's break it down: some of our other coffees are a single farm/estate coffee, which means each one can be traced back to one farm (like our Arabela from Brazil or our Pocketful of Sunshine from Ethiopia). Other coffees come from farms so small that they are gathered together into community lots that are recognized by region or by washing station or other identifiers, depending on the origin.

That's how our Mujeres Huilenses works. This is a regional blend, which means the importer is able to regularly buy from producers throughout their harvest  - across volumes, varieties, qualities. This is crucial for small family farms selling specialty coffee, as it allows them to pick only the ripest coffee cherries and bring a small, high-quality delivery. They can repeat this several times as their harvest continues and cherries ripen, ensuring the best is brought each time.

The goal for this special lot is to separate out coffees delivered by female farmers or female-owned farmed to celebrate the often-hidden work of women. We know all farms are worked and run by men and women, often both parties in a married couple, but farmers typically deliver parchment under the name of the property owner, which obscures the work of others. We're thrilled to be able to share this coffee and honor the women of Colombia who were involved.
