What's the deal with Hobbit Day?
If you're not a hobbit, or hobbit-adjacent, or you didn't grow up in a family that casually quoted Tolkien, you might be confused about our silly autumn coffee blend.
Even if you DID fall under the spell of the Peter Jackson films you might still wonder: why hobbits? Why now?
Long, long ago, there lived a hobbit. His name was Bilbo Baggins. His birthday was September the 22nd.
Then there was a nephew, Frodo. His birthday was also September the 22nd.
They had many adventures - separate, but connected.
Years passed, and folks began to commemorate the birthdays of Frodo and Bilbo, filling the day with story and song. But most of all, they filled the day with good food and drink.
In the year 2022, a coffee roaster in Kenosha, Wisconsin began to plan their fall coffee blend. They mused over many names and themes - something to do with flannel? Something about harvest time? Maybe something like EQUINOX or AUTUMNAL?
But one of the employees (ok, the only employee) happened to observe Hobbit Day with friends and family every year and thought it might be a fun and unique idea for a coffee blend. After all, hobbits love:
- nature
- food
- parties
- drinks
- stories
These just so happened to be some of our favorite things too, and things especially enjoyable in autumn. The coffee itself was an excellent match - a blend of Sumatra and Colombia roasted a bit darker, with lovely notes of burnt marshmallows and tobacco. Why, hobbits love pipes! It was meant to be.
In the end, this exclusive autumn blend has been cherished and lauded, a hearty and cozy way to welcome a new season and keep in mind the stories we've come to know and love.
Purchasing Hobbit Day Blend for the first time?
Use it as an excuse to share a cuppa, or take your brew on your own simple adventure. A walk will suffice. A walk with a book for company would be better. A walk with a book and biscuit with butter and jam? Well. That will do just fine. I mean, if you can find a wizard to set off a few fireworks, GREAT please invite us! But if not, even a small glimmer of magic is enough. A good first sip, the first yellowing leaves, a sweetly cool breeze. May all your autumnal observations be rich and may your coffee be strong.
