Every coffee has an origin story, but this is a really special one for us.
Last year, we visited Chicago for the Specialty Coffee Association Expo. We joined the IWCA Breakfast to learn more and support women in coffee.
The coffee served at the breakfast was extraordinary - sweet, a little tart, so smooth. We discovered it was from our own Costa Rica friends and farmers, Kathia Zamora from Cloza Estate. It was grown on her family farm and imported by Marianella from Farmers Project, making it a true team effort.
"Next year we're getting some of that!" we declared.
Here we are, a year later, sipping on some Don Clodoveo of our very own. This microlot came about as an idea to surprise Kathia's Dad with a coffee that honors his 50 + years farming coffee. When he saw the bag with his name on it, he was very emotional and proud! It is the only natural microlot available from Farmers Project, and it's a truly distinctive coffee, a pacarama varietal.
The Pacamara Natural made it to the IWCA breakfast because Marianella and Kathia are long time members of IWCA Costa Rica and they were the first example of 100% IWCA members - women led Coffee Value chain making coffee available in the USA.
