Doña Duglas - Mexico

We've been on the hunt for an excellent coffee from women producers in Mexico after we ran out of the old favorite, Was 51 (real fans know!). It needed to be sweet, balanced enough for everyday mornings, but special enough to make the daily grind a little magical. We tried a couple of options, but none really fit the bill until we tried the offering from Doña Duglas. Worth the wait!

Doña Duglas' coffee is a reflection of love, hard work, and the power of family. Grown in the highlands of Villa Corzo, this coffee comes from El Cielo, the farm of Duglas Molina, a passionate woman who began farming in 2016. Duglas is part of Covoya's Cafe Delas program, which supports women producers with trainings, technical assistance, and additional premiums for their coffee. represents the tireless efforts of Duglas, her husband Eddy, and their family. For Duglas, coffee farming is more than just a profession—it’s a testament to the strength and delicacy of women’s hands. She believes that women possess a unique touch when it comes to picking the cherries, ensuring only the ripest and finest fruit makes it to the final cup. Together, as a family, they cultivate a coffee that’s not only rich in flavor but rich in story.

This coffee is processed with the utmost care and precision. Duglas and her family handpick every cherry, ensuring that only the ripest, most vibrant cherries make it to the processing stage. Duglas takes pride in doing the picking herself. After harvesting, the cherries are depulped and fermented for 24 to 36 hours, with close attention paid to maintaining the flavor integrity. The coffee is then washed thoroughly and dried on raised beds, where it’s carefully turned and monitored for consistency. This meticulous, hands-on approach ensures that the coffee is clean, bright, and full of character, with a smooth body and subtle, sweet notes.
